I have been fortunate enough in my life to have avoided many situations where my body would need to produce a noticeable amount of adrenaline. I am actually quite surprised at how it feels to notice the significant increase in strength and awareness when adrenaline is activated during a stressful event.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that I would have the experience as a mother of an aggressive three year old. Yesterday Katie managed to pull our three-tier water fountain over on top of herself. It is about as tall as she is and I seriously don't know how she didn't break a bone.
I was just inside the house when I heard the crash and screams, it was no more than 10 seconds before I was at her side and pulled the middle fountain tier off of her legs. It was resting at an angle against her between her knees and her ankles and had her pinned against the edge of the bottom fountain pool. Somehow the top tier had hit her right between the eyes and she has a big scrape on the tip of her nose and between her eyes, this impact had given her a bloody nose and was my biggest concern when first assessing her injuries. After I decided her nose wasn't broken and the bleeding stopped, I found the bruising on her right leg where the middle piece had pinned her down and couldn't believe that it didn't crack her shin bone. She is somehow the luckiest little girl, it could have been so much worse very easily. Two hours after the accident she was acting completely normal and today too.
The amazing part for me was later that evening when I went to show John what had happened and I tried to pick up the middle tier that I had moved off of Katie and it felt so much heavier. I could barely lift it to move it, it seriously has to weigh about 60 pounds! I still can't get over how light it seemed in the moment that it was pinning Katie's legs down. So, for the last 24 hours I have been marveling at how our bodies work and the way we are designed. Humans can go from standard every day functioning bodies to having super hero strength in 10 seconds!
I feel truly blessed that Katie is fine, and although I think adrenaline is really cool, I hope the next time I get to have the experience of adrenaline induced strength it is during a situation that doesn't involve any of my kids! Needless to say, we won't be putting the fountain back together any time soon.

Oh my goodness, how scarey! I am glad she is okay.
Wowee! Do you think you had the help of extra angels on that one?! I'm so glad she didn't do more than scrape herself up. That is amazing!
